Technical Tutorial= Screencast-o-matic
For this lesson, I used Screencast-o-matic to show my students a demonstration of how to correctly use an MLA Citation heading and quote citation. This is something that my students have been struggling with for a long time, and its something that every student needs to know. I firmly believe that showing is more powerful than telling a student, so a video of me demonstrating this skill is the perfect way to get the information across. If students watched this the night before an in-class essay, they would have the background knowledge to try it themselves, thereby illuminating several minutes of instruction by the teacher before they could begin writing. I really liked Screencast-o-matic, and I think that I will be using it again in the future to demonstrate other skills for my class.
Creating Change- EDpuzzle
Flipped Lesson in Content Area
I chose to use EDpuzzle to create a video that embedded discussion questions into it. I actually used this as a way to have students engage in content at home before they talked about the theme of creating change in both their lives, and the lives of our main character Peekay in the novel, The Power of One the next day. My students LOVE Kid President, so this video was a big hit. I found EDpuzzle to be easy to use and teacher friendly. I also embedded this into my Google Classroom, so it was easy for students to get to it and respond. I can't wait to read their responses.
