Using Chromebooks in the Classroom
The Evolution of the Chromebook |
What started out as a simple search engine on a mission to make sense of the chaos that was the Internet has transformed into a computer that is taking the education world by storm. Google's evolution from a small internet start up to a conglomerate dominating several spheres has been dramatic. So too has its launch into the computer world. Though Google has had several Chrombook models, they have successfully integrated their basic, open source computer. With the development of Chrome and Chrome OS they have launched themselves into the education sphere by promoting the Chrombook as an educational device of the future. As we move forward in this technological age, students are relying more and more on the Internet suite Google has built. In the future all work that students do may be based solely online.
This presentation focuses on the development of the Chromebook and marks its progress into the education world. |
Chromebooks and Social Media |
As students use their Chromebooks to interact with the teacher and each other, it is just as important to examine how teachers are using social media to discuss the Chromebook. Social media has become an incredible outlet for teachers to share tutorials, creative ideas and advice on how to integrate Chromebooks into the classroom environment.
Additionally, teachers can utilize social media to engage students on their Chromebooks in class. These avenues open new doors and enlarge the conversation about how Chromebooks, and other technology like them, are changing the way that students interact with classroom content. |
Implications on Classroom Life
|
With more and more institutions implementing Chromebooks and other technology in the classroom, it is important to know how using such technology will affect life within the classroom. This presentation focuses on the ways that the availability of Chromebooks for each student will change the lives of the students, teachers and atmosphere of the school environment.
Chromebooks are changing the way teachers and students approach classroom content. Instead of handing out mountains of paperwork, the teacher can push assignments out via Google Classroom, integrate videos with Youtube, and quiz students using Kahoot. This creates an engaging and hands-on environment for students that streamlines information transmission. |
Ethical Implications and Issues |
There are many challenges when implementing new technology in the classroom. Many teachers face ethical, technological and other issues.
The most important issues that often arise are student distraction, student safety, plagiarism, and a lack of teacher/technology familiarity. Students are at great risk for information theft while they utilize their Chromebooks. It is important for teachers to go over safety and research information with students so that they understand the limits of what they should put out on social media, or access online. |
